Valentine's day madness

I did a Valentine's day wedding for the first time. It's not the best day to have a wedding or the best month even as prices of flowers are up 3 times more than usual. So if you are reading this and if you are not yet married, please take note.

I made 2 bouquets the day before as the 1st one was just unlucky as 1 of the hydrangeas wilted on me and to make things worse, someone was not careful with it when I placed it in the refrigerator of the groom's house the night before (Chinese tradition where the groom brings the bride her bouquet in the morning) and when they slammed the door, they slammed 1 part of my precious Phalaenopsis orchid off. Stress levels rising by this point as I was exhausted from making the flowers on the wedding car.
Went home, redid another one went to bed by 1am. By 4:30am I was up, I had to get ready, load all the stuff in to my little car and head to the hotel to make more flowers for the night. I slaved all day and barely ate to make 35 arrangements for guest tables, 6 large arrangements for the walkway, registration table, photo table, bride & grooms chair and 4 more boutonnieres for the family and the flowers for the stage decor. 35 arrangements doesn't seem like many but time was robbed prepping the raw flowers before we could start with the arrangement. So plenty of lessons to be learned from just 1 night. Here's just some of the photos from the night taken by my crappy iPhone. I'm still waiting for the good ones by the photographer. Enjoy. :)

Just me, myself and the Merc

This is the first time I did a wedding car all on my own. Was I nervous? Yes a little as I only figured out the technical part in my head but have yet to quite prove that it works in practice. As usual I will start prepping the small bouts and corsages the day before then sticking it into the fridge. Made the bouquet the next day and once I was done with that I rushed off to the couples place to face the car. I was left there alone in the car park of their apartment and I quickly unload my stuff and got to work. I rather enjoyed the alone time I had with the car because it was cooperative! It didn't complain and my technical part of the work seems to be working out great. Once that garland was secured I was racing against time to stick all the leaves and flowers in. It was getting dark, I was tired but thank God I packed myself a bottle of water. As I don't live in an apartment it didn't occur to me that the lights would come on when the sun sets. I felt a little silly when it came on, I guess I didn't have the darkness to worry about after all.

Placid blue 2.0

Following from placid blue post, these are the flowers for the actual wedding day by the same client. I scored that giant hydrangea for her bouquet and mind you there's only ONE stalk in there. That's how big it was. By this point I really wanted to not see a hydrangea for a couple of week because it's exhausting keeping them alive. :/

New year's best start

Everyone looks forward to a new year. Fresh start, new beginnings, reason to party. It was indeed a new beginning for me. I left my corporate job in November to do flowers full time. I never thought I'd want to be a floral designer creatively called or just simply a florist. I have to say the new year started really well as I made my favorite bridal bouquet to date. I almost did not want to give it away but I did not have enough spares to make me another. I was really glad my client loved it too and the peony & hydrangea survived the wedding day despite our weather. To more favorite bridal bouquets!

Wedding season started

I can't remember for the life of me why these were taken at night and with such bad lighting. I could have finished it earlier...probably something came up. Who knows. I do remember delivering it very early in the morning though. Zzzz.....

Color Phunk

I'm always impressed with natures beauty. God is pure genius I must say. He's beyond creative, artistic and makes the most overwhelming beautiful things like this hydrangea.

Not a flower

I'm starting to think I have junk collecting issues. I passed a large branch of dried palm seed shoots. Nothing left on it cept the ends from the shoot which was once attached to the palm seeds. It really does look like a flower. I didn't know what the hell to do with it but it does have potential I thought to myself. I left it under my garden chair for sometime until on day... I created the below.

Placid Blue and the case of the Blues.

In all my years as a designer (of all sorts), I never knew of this color called Placid Blue until one day a client shared with me the colors she chose for her wedding. I Googled it and....."Ah".  I call it Baby blue or powder blue. First bouquet I made for her was for her pre-wedding photoshoot. Anyhow, there weren't that many blue flowers to choose from at that point of time, so the light blue hydrangea was our best. I apologize for the bad lighting and background, but the floral supplier I ordered my flowers from back then were not too reliable. My hydrangea never made it over for me to pick up, I had to wait for the last shipment till 7 in the evening, rushed back to make this and deliver it immediately after. I've since then stopped ordering from them.
